MAGA Inc. Holds $403 Million as Trump Pledges $500 Million

MAGA Inc. sits on $403.45 million while President Donald Trump says he will spend up to $500 million to help Republicans in the November midterms.

President's term in office

MAGA Inc. sits on $403.45 million while President Donald Trump says he will spend up to $500 million to help Republicans in the November midterms. The math does not add up.

Trump told reporters he plans to allocate between $400 million and $500 million from his political operation. “I think I have like close to a billion dollars in the super PAC,” Trump said. “We’re going to spend a lot of money.” He added, “I’m going to spend whatever amount of money necessary to try and help us.” Then he made it personal. “This is my money that I control.”

The latest Federal Election Commission filing tells a different story. MAGA Inc. reported $403.45 million in cash on hand as of July 31. That is less than half of what Trump described. The group has spent about $21 million since the beginning of 2025. Only $1.7 million went to independent expenditures. The FEC lists MAGA Inc. as an unauthorized hybrid PAC.

Republicans in competitive House and Senate races have been waiting for MAGA Inc. to ramp up spending. Early voting is about to begin in key states. The money has not arrived. Trump’s political advisers have been assuring anxious allies that MAGA Inc. will come to the rescue during the peak campaign season after Labor Day. But Republicans are increasingly skeptical. They suspect Trump has other ideas.

“I’m going to help a lot of the congressmen and senators that need help,” Trump said. He also said he expects money to remain after November and could use it in 2028. Federal rules do not require MAGA Inc. to spend down its balance this cycle. That is the quiet part that matters.

The Timing Question

Vice President JD Vance held an event in Michigan on Monday through MAGA Inc. It was the first major time Trump’s PAC has waded into the November midterms. Republicans have been getting antsy for the $400 million war chest to start spending its funds. The nonprofit arm of Trump’s political operation, Securing American Greatness, premiered its first midterm ads on Wednesday. The spending was just under $1 million, according to the tracking firm AdImpact.

That is a tiny portion of the hundreds of millions of dollars in Trump’s political operation. The ads have begun running in major media markets like New York, Washington, DC, Chicago and Philadelphia. They are heavy on Trump’s own record. Some Republicans wanted the money to go to specific candidates facing tough races. Instead, the early spending looks like it is about Trump.

MAGA Inc.’s largest disclosed 2026 intervention was $827,711 supporting Sen. Dan Sullivan in the South Carolina Republican Senate runoff. The PAC’s July filing showed no debt and $403.45 million remaining in cash. MAGA Inc. entered the final months before the midterms with $403.45 million available. That is more cash than the Republican National Committee and the Democratic National Committee held as of July 31.

The Republican National Committee had $130.36 million. The Democratic National Committee had $16.05 million. MAGA Inc. has more money than either major national party committee. Yet it has spent sparingly. About $21 million since January 2025. That leaves the PAC with almost 95 percent of its receipts still represented by its July 31 cash balance.

What the Numbers Hide

Trump said last week he planned to spend “a lot” of the money his PAC had raised. He told reporters on August 21, “I’ll be spending a lot of that money for candidates that I think are good, Republican candidates.” The Atlantic reported the president also wants to spend a large chunk of the PAC’s funds on an advertising blitz touting his own record as president. The ads will reportedly focus on nationalizing the midterms broadly around his victories.

That is not what Republicans in competitive races have been asking for. Seven GOP donors and fundraisers say they want to see MAGA Inc. spend more to boost Republican candidates. But there has not been a commitment from Trump’s team about how much will actually be spent on this midterm cycle, and where. That raises questions over how much money will be spent at all.

The super PAC raised $3 million in July and $18 million in June. But the fund has largely been sitting on that money ahead of November. In Texas, Republicans fret as the Democrat has had the airwaves largely to himself for weeks. The Democrat has been spending roughly seven times more than the GOP since June. Yet it is still unclear how much Trump’s outside group will spend of its $400 million plus war chest.

MAGA Inc. has declined to publicly preview any spending plans for the midterms. A spokesman for the group said MAGA Inc. “will be hosting events throughout the nation” ahead of the midterms. That is not a spending plan. That is a press release.

The discrepancy between Trump’s claim of nearly $1 billion available and MAGA Inc.’s reported $403.45 million cash balance is unresolved. Trump may be counting funds across multiple entities. He may be including pledged donations that have not cleared. He may be speaking loosely. Markets do not reward loose speech. They punish it.

I have spent thirty years watching money move. The pattern here is familiar. A big number gets announced. The actual number is smaller. The timing is convenient. The uncertainty is not stated honestly. That is the part that worries me.

Republicans must decide whether to trust Trump’s word or the FEC filing. The filing is public. The word is not. In my experience, the filing wins.
